Santa Cesarea Terme

Description

Santa Cesarea Terme, is located in a rich plain that overviews of the Salento - Adriatic coastline. Tourism is the main feature of the local economy of this resort, supported by the presence of thermal springs in various sea caverns (Gattula, Fetida, Sulfurea e Solfatara) that propose a perfect thermal water track.

The town offers a relatively modern architecture and features buildings of late '800, such as Villa Stucchi, which is a unique example of the Moorish style design in Apulia (built between 1894 and 1900).

The Church del Sacro Cuore, built in the early years of XX century, is entitled to Santa Cesarea, the Patron Saint of the town.

Not to miss: the Church of the Confraternita dell'Immacolata Concezione (late 800 early 900), the Church of the Visitazione di Maria Vergine (early '800), the Church of San Michele Arcangelo (1726) and the Church della Confraternita dell'Addolorata.

A series of fortified towers were built between late '400 and early '500, to protect the coastline towns from the Saracen raids. The most important ones are:

Torre Miggiano, Torre Santa Cesarea, Torre Minervino and Torre Specchia di Guardia.
