Cortina d'Ampezzo
Description
Surronded by the imposing peaks of the Tofana, the Monte Cristallo and the Sorapis Dolomites, Cortina d'Ampezzo is the ideal place for the winter sports. It hosts, in fact, a lot of international events, from the Ski World Cup to the Winter Polo on Snow.
Cortina is composed by a central area and many hamlets; the first historic document in which the name Ampezzo is present dates back to 1156; in a document of 1317 the current name "Curtina Ampitii" is mentioned.
In addition to the naturalistic beauties, Cortina d'Ampezzo is now a cultural location, thanks to the Regole d'Ampezzo Museums, which consists in three different museums: the Palaeontological Museum, at the first floor, the Ethnographic Museum, at the second one, and the Modern Art Museum, at the third one.
